 Hip-Hop

Music has been around since the dawn of time. Many listen to it as a therapy, to have fun, as a cultural connection, it has many different uses. There are all genres of music like: rock, country, jazz, blues, hip-hop, R&B, and many more. My personal favorite is Hip-Hop, there is so many different stories that can be told through the songs, and many can relate to them. Today, I am going to talk about two of my favorite artists: Lil Baby and Polo G.

Lil Baby

Dominique Armani Jones, "Lil Baby", was born on December 3, 1994, from Atlanta, Georgia. He grew up being involved in petty crimes while his friends he grew up with like Young Thug, Coach K, and Pee went on to have success in the music industry. In 2015, at 19, he went to prison for two years for violating probation. Lil Baby has talked about his time in prison and how he reflected on his life and how he could really make it out if he would stick to his music.

In 2017, he released called "Perfect Timing", that featured major artists such as his friend Young Thug, Lil Yatchty, Gunna, and many others. This album started Lil Baby's superstar rap career. He got the attention of many people across the country, and continued to release more Albums and singles. His best most popular albums include: "Too Hard"(which is my personal favorite), "Harder than Ever", "Street Gossip", "Drip Harder", "Woah", and his latest "My Turn".

Lil Baby is one of the best rappers out right now and is well-known for all the features he gives other artists to help their platforms. He has done features for Drake, Future, Polo G, City Girls, Rod Wave, DJ Khaled, Gunna, NBA Youngboy, and a LOT of other popular artists. He recently released a song called, "The Bigger Picture" that caught the attention of millions of people, because it has a very powerful message about racism and how we need to end it all together.

Polo G

Taurus Tremani Barlett, "Polo G", was born January 6, 1999, in Chicago, Illinois. He grew up around a lot of violence as well as gang activity. At 15, he lost one of his friends to gun violence. He was involved in many petty crimes growing up, while still trying to start his music career. His first tracks to hit a million views was, "Never Cared" and "The Come Up", both dropping in 2018.

Polo G's first breakout single was "Finer Things", which he had wrote while being incarcerated. The hit single got 12 million views in just three months on YouTube. He made another hot single, "Hollywood", which is the first song i ever heard of his that instantly made him one of my favorites. With all the attention coming his was he signed a record deal with Columbia Records in 2018. This allowed him to collab with other big artists such as: Lil Baby, Lil Durk, G Herbo, and Lud Foe.

The song that everyone knows him for and possible is his biggest hit is "Pop Out" which he collabed with artists Lil Tjay to create. The single got over 450 million streams within the first 9 months, and would earn a platinum certification from RIAA. He only has two albums as of right now which are: my personal favorite "Die a Legend", and "The Goat" which has some of his most popular songs on it such as "Martin and Gina", "21", and "Be Something" ft Lil Baby. They both are very popular and have made Polo G one of the hottest artists out right now.

Polo G like Lil Baby has features with many other big artists such as: Lil Baby, Bankroll Hayden, NBA Youngboy, Lil Durk, Juice Wrld, DaBaby, Quando Rondo, Blueface, as well as MANY other popular artists. His lastes release was his hit single, "Epidemic" which got number 56 on the Billboard Chart in 2020.

Both of these artists have made many hit albums and singles that have put their names at the top of the rap game. They each have stories to tell people about their life growing up and what it was like to be in their shoes. That is what Hip-Hop is all about, telling people a story that they can connect to on some level. I think both of these artists will be around for a long time, and will continue to make great music.
